Yes, you are landing right place! Canva’s long-term approach to the future of work, with a focus on flexibility and connection, is updated.

It’s safe to say that the last 18 months have altered the globe in ways that few of us could have imagined.
The bulk of us used to commute to actual offices, but now we work from our homes all over the world. For many, the epidemic triggered a long-overdue shift in when, where, and how we work.

While the global situation is still in flux, we believe that when it comes to the future of work, traditional workplaces will become the exception.
If there’s one thing we’ve proven, it’s that collaboration isn’t greatest in one way or one location.
As millions of people around the world embrace a more hybrid style of working, we’ve experienced this through our platform, with team adoption and collaboration exploding.

Though the world has evolved, our purpose has remained the same since the beginning.
To foster a culture and atmosphere in which everyone is empowered to accomplish their best work. We’re happy to provide an update on our long-term strategy for the future of work today.

Canva will continue to promote a hybrid approach that balances Flexibility and Connection in the future.
We won’t have any hard and fast rules on how many days you must spend in the office. Instead, we’re allowing teams to choose the right mix for their specific needs. ‘What works for you, works for us,’ is a mantra we live by.

Flexibility and Connection in Balance

When considering the most sustainable and long-term model for the future of employment, we believe finding a critical balance is critical. For example, according to the results of a recent poll, 79 per cent of our team members feel productive working from home, and 81 per cent want to keep balancing this flexibility with regular opportunities for in-person collaboration.
As we look forward to the months and years ahead, we want to create an environment that captures the aspects of remote work that we’ve enjoyed, like working more flexible ampere-hours, while also assuring that we build opportunities for the moments we have missed, like in-person connection and collaboration.

With this in mind, as we develop this approach, we’ve recognised two key pillars.

Flexibility: Allowing our employees to work in the manner in which they feel most productive, whether that be primarily at home, in an office, or a combination of both.

Connection: Enabling our teams to interact and form meaningful connections while also providing them with the space and chance to connect and look ahead.

We won’t have any hard and fast rules for balancing working from home with working in an office. However, we’d like everyone to be able to attend their local Canva Hub at least twice per season. We’ll continue to make decisions and build our model in a way that favours individual flexibility and work-life balance while ensuring we’re providing opportunities for teams to form meaningful relationships by balancing these two pillars.

Creating a Hybrid World

We’re looking forward to continuing to reap the benefits of the shift to remote employment as we pursue a long-term hybrid strategy. We’ve been able to accelerate our worldwide expansion as we plan for an increasingly scattered future, from introducing Meeting Free Wednesday to enhancing context-sharing and global alignment.

Once regionally focused, our Season Openers have evolved into worldwide experiences with both remote and in-person components. To correlate with the change to a remote world, we’ve had a variety of themes, ranging from an Aqua Spectacular to the Canva Olympics, Canva TV, Around the World, and Canva in Pyjamas.

1. Think about your team first: Each team will have a different mix of virtual and in-person events. When it comes to cadences and rhythms, we’re allowing different teams to make their selections. It’s critical to consider as a team when creating meaningful time to connect and work together, whether it’s a team bonding day, a planning session, or simply a brainstorming session.

2. Schedule some office time each season: At Canva, we’ve worked hard to cultivate a distinct culture. We do everything together, from eating lunch together to preparing huge parties when we achieve our goals. While our culture is always growing to fit a hybrid environment, we want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to get together in person 1 to 2 times per season. We expect many more people to visit our offices regularly, and we’ll continue to invest in creating wonderful ‘vibe-y’ workplace experiences.

3. All company-wide events will be held in a hybrid, global format: Our entire crew has grown tremendously in the last year. We’ll continue to organise all company-wide events in a worldwide hybrid model, with components for in-person connection for each of our hub locations, with over 2,000 Canvanauts throughout the world.

What Will Happen Next?

We’ve had the opportunity to reassess how we collaborate over the last 18 months. We hope that our team’s ability to strike a balance between flexibility and connection continues to inspire them to accomplish their best work. We’ll continue to evolve this model based on our learnings and input, even if we don’t have all of the answers yet.

The future of work is exciting, and we’re excited to share more information as we embark on this adventure.
